I rarely check my memory (unless doing something like building a template where Kontakt could potentially exceed my memory limit - its happened, the result is a fully frozen machine requiring a force reboot.) when I have monitored it, even after quitting everything memory will creep up over the course of a day which is totally normal. It's basically doing the best job it can to give you a snappy experience, but since we run sessions that tend to eat huge portions of RAM the OS can only do so much, (unless you have a huge amount of RAM.) Even when you do have large amounts of memory you'll see RAM fill up over time because it's simply caching as much as it can get away with to keep everything snappy and efficient. Once another task requires a lot of memory it kicks what it has to out of memory to prioritize the new task. However the OS is also designed to be efficient. Why? The next time you load that program or project it loads quicker, and things feel snappier overall. The OS tries to make life convenient for you by keeping recently used resources in memory after you quit.

On PC only Kontakt leaves behind a significant amount of trash in memory after deleting the tracks and instruments no matter which DAW, with Spitfire Player (Abbey Road ONE) everything works as expected.īut on my MacBook though, the very same issue applies across the board, also with Spitfire's own sampler. DAWs I have are Cakewalk, Ableton Live Lite, Reaper and Logic Pro.

I have two systems, M1 MacBook Pro (Big Sur, 8gb) and desktop PC (Win10, Ryzen 1800x, 64gb). I might be wrong here but I think this may be a bit more wide spread problem than just Kontakt since at least for me Spitfire Player has the very same behaviour but only on a Mac. said that NI was investigating so I thought you guys knew by now about the instability- crashes issues and what happens when you reach max RAM usage, sorry if I didn't make it more clear.

It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to reproduce what we've been reporting here for months. Yea I can go back to Kontakt 6.3 but then several libraries won't work. It happened a few times and it wasn't cool. Now I can't change Kontakt instruments if I need to show a director different sounds, arrangements, because I risk crashing the session (you know how these meetings go, the last thing I'm worried about is RAM not getting flushed XD). I have a lightweight 32GB laptop that I use for meetings and showing demos that used to be perfect for that. It's wasted memory that leads to the system becoming very unstable and eventually crashing. This is not a modern memory allocation thing, it's bugged and can be reproduced. There are tons of information in this thread showing how Kontakt from 6.4 up isn't releasing RAM.
